An Open Letter from Space Station Anime
I’m a huge fan of anime (yes I'm Otaku). I’ve always loved the art style and the stories. Ever since I was a kid, when I would watch old episodes of
Astroboy, Kimba, the While Lion and Thunderbirds 2086. I remember getting up at 7:00am on Saturday mornings to
watch Robotech. I remember Robotech as being the one series that really opened
my eyes as to what anime truly was. Anime wasn’t just a kids cartoon drawn in a
cool Japanese style. It was great story telling. It was the maturing of a young
man in a time of war. It was about a love triangle between Rick, Lisa and
Minmei. It was about the horrors of war and that people died in war. I still
remember the effect Ben Dixon’s blood curdling death scream has on me, when I first
saw that episode. Robotech was a complex story with many interweaving arcs.
Before Robotech, my views of cartoons were that they were light entertainment,
not a medium for complex stories.
Another thing I remember about watching Robotech was about the sixth episode into the Invid
Invasion, the local TV started started airing the Macross Saga all over again.
A decision made a TV station manager who simply didn’t “get it”. To this day,
I’m still appalled by business people who only look at the bottom line, and not
considering their customers needs, or in that case, their viewers. Even today
you see this in the media with the business decision to cancel Jericho, and the backlash CBS received
because of it. As a consumer I except to be treated right, and as a merchant,
it’s my responsibility to treat my customers the same way I would want to be
treated.
Our goal at Space Station Anime is to give our customers the
widest choice of anime DVD’s at the best price possible. We want to be able to
offer the widest selection of titles. To do this, I’m going to require your
help. If after searching this website, you cannot find the title you are
looking for, then please e-mail me and let me know. I will then do everything
in my power to offer that title to you, at a reasonable price. This is my
pledge to my customers, and fellow otaku.
However, there is one exception to my request pledge; I will
not offer Hentai in any form or manner. I know that some people will argue that
there are some Hentai titles that also have excellent stories and I should
offer them. The problem is that for every Hentai title that has some merit,
there are several more titles which are basically animated porn, and at this
time, we do not have the resources to distinguish between one and the other.
Therefore we at Space Station Anime have chosen to be a Hentai Free zone. This
does not mean that we will only carry “sanitized” titles. We carry many Anime
Imports that have not been “westernized”, and many of them will have mature
stories, including violence and nudity, but will not carry titles that are
clearly defined as Hentai.
It is our hope that Space Station Anime will one day, have
the large selection of any e-retailer at affordable prices.
