In the mid-23rd century, humanity regulates itself through genetic programming. When the Earth is threatened by a gargantuan ring that appears in space, the prototype warship Bilkis destroys it. Lord Sneak orders the crew to find the aliens who launched the Ring, defying the elderly cabal that rules Earth. The key to the mission is the CG mecha the Shaft, piloted by five women: Mika, whose innate talents remain undiscovered; icily perfect Mir; her toadying sidekick Remmy; bouncy Tiki; and relatively sane Sofia. Geneshaft is meant to play like Sakura Wars in outer space, but Mika is fussy, impulsive, and irresponsible. She's so obsessed with a personal grudge against Captain Amagiwa, she's forced to perform her duties at gunpoint. The explanation-laden script contains some real clangers: aliens supposedly crashed on Ganymede 15 billion years ago--long before the Jovian moon was formed
