The story of this fantasy adventure continues to unfold in intriguing ways. Unlike most game-based series, the characters in .Hack//Sign realize they are in the cyberworld of an online game. Events in the real world affect the game, although it's not clear if the reverse is true. Most of the characters remain focused on two mysteries: (1) who and what is Tsukasa and (2) what is the Key of the Twilight--if it exists at all. Mimiru meets an immature player named A-20 and begins instructing her in the ways of the game, while BT, Crim, and Bear search for more information about the Key. Subaru explains it was mentioned once on a message board, but the message was in German and quickly deleted. A curious character who resembles Puss-in-Boots appears to Tsukasa, leading him on, as the filmmakers lead the viewer on.
